Insh Marshes National Nature Reserve (RSPB)

This amazing wetland is one of the most important natural floodplains in Europe. A great place for wildlife and scenery.

One of the most important wetlands in Europe, the reserve covers five miles of flood plain between Kingussie and Kincraig. Breeding birds on the marshes include: wigeons; goldeneyes; lapwings; curlews; redshanks; snipe; water rails and spotted crakes. In winter some 100 whooper swans feed across the marshes. Hen harriers can be seen at dusk flying into their roost.The aspen and birch woodland on the south side of the marshes is a good place to see redstarts, tree pipits and spotted flycatchers. The woodland is also of high conservation importance for insects, mosses and lichens.Information Viewpoint with two hides and three nature trails of between 2.5 miles  and 1.5 miles
