Antonine Wall Bar Hill (HES)

This fort, on the highest section of the wall, included a headquarters building, a well, granary and a bath house. From inscriptions it is known that the Hamian Archers, originally from Syria, were stationed here.

Explore the highest fort on the Antonine Wall where the foundations of the Roman army headquarters and bath-house are still visible. A small Iron Age fort stands close by, overlooking the rock-cut ditch that marks the fontier. There are superb views over the Kelvin Valley from this strategic point.
