Pollok House and Country Park (NTS)

Pollok House built in the elegant 18th century style for the Maxwell family.

Pollok House built in the elegant 18th century style for the Maxwell family. Pollok House once a family home and now the historic jewel at the heart of Pollok Park, displays in its elegant refurbished rooms some of the finest Spanish paintings in Britain from the collection of Sir William Stirling Maxwell. Managed by the National Trust for Scotland. One of Scotlands grandest Edwardian country houses, Pollok was begun in 1747 and it was extended in the late 19th Century. The house contains much original furniture and the finest privately owned collection of Spanish paintings including works by Goya, Murillo, and El Greco. A rare survival is that of the magnificent suite of servants quarters. The house is at the centre of Glasgow’s largest park with extensive woodlands, a walled garden and a woodland garden with many rare rhododendrons. Edwardian kitchen restaurant, gift shop.
