Tenement House (NTS)

Tenement House (NTS)

Glasgow, more than any Scottish city, is associated with tenements. This first-floor flat is a typical late Victorian example.

Glasgow, more than any Scottish city, is associated with tenements. This first-floor flat is a typical late Victorian example, consisting of four rooms and retaining most of its original features such as its bed recesses, coal bunker and bathroom. The furniture, furnishings and personal possessions of Miss Agnes Toward, a shorthand typist, who lived here for over fifty years, present a fascinating picture of domestic life at the beginning of the 20th century. The kitchen range is black and shining from the â’Zebo’ polish. In the parlour the table is set for tea and there is a rosewood piano – a sure sign of Victorian gentility. Exhibition on ground floor about tenement life. Image Credit ©  National Trust – The Tenement House.
